If you remember, we set up how to golf with the position of your hands. This is very important as most golfers hit bad shots because there hands are incorrectly positioned on the golf club grip.
Now to continue. Let’s set up your stance or address or whatever you want to call it. You are to stand with your feet apart about equal to your shoulder width. So, if you can get to a full length mirror and set you feet apart, look to see if they are apart the same amount as your shoulders. If no mirror then just put your hands where your shoulders are and run your hands straight down to see if your feet, the inside of your big toe is equal to your shoulders.
Keep your back straight and slightly flex your knees. Then bend over slightly so that your hands can swing back and forth and miss hitting your knees or upper thighs. Just swing them back and forth with your hands apart by about 6 inches.
This will be the approximate position of your body and arms and hands in relationship to the ball. This is your how to golf ready position or your sport ready position.
How to golf with a make believe loaf of bread. You are in your golf ready position. You have your arms hanging down, your upper torso is bent from your waist so that you can swing the arms without hitting your legs. Now pretend you have a loaf of bread between your hands by placing them apart about 10 to 12 inches with the palms facing each other.
Now swing your arms back and forth without moving anything other than your arms. Not very high, just get the feel of the swing. Do you feel the nice easy swing of the arms. We will start using the club in the next section of how to golf.
This next section we will start how to golf using the club. Now pick up the club and lay the goof club grip across your left hand like we said earlier, then place the right hand on the grip. Make sure that you can touch the ground with the club with your back bent over at your waist. Just to make sure, swing the club back and forth to make sure your legs do not hinder the swing and you are not bent over too far. Have your little pendulum swing just clear your knees.
Next we shall rest the club head on the ground with out bending over any more. If you need to, place the club down further in your grip. It should be up near the top of the grip anyway unless you are extremely short. Now to begin your back swing.
Rotate your shoulders towards the right. See how your arms follow. Can you rotate your shoulders so that your shoulders are 90 degrees from you feet. That means your left shoulder would be pointing straight out front of you. Also, you have kept your head straight and the left shoulder should be just under your chin. How high is the golf club? About parallel to the ground?
Now rotate the other way until your right shoulder is pointing straight out in front of you and under your chin also. Your club should be parallel to the ground again only on the other side of your body.
Did you feel your knees bend a little. The right knee flexed a little more and the weight shifted more so onto your right foot when you went back and then onto your left foot most of the weight was on the left foot. If you tried to hit a ball like that it would go about 50 or 80 yards.
There are people who claim they can hit the ball 300 yards without using their arms. I don’t know about that but they are trying to make a point. You don’t need to swing hard with your arms to hit the golf ball. As a matter of fact most guys and some women try to do exactly that and do not play very well.
When you rotate back you are putting torque on your swing and when your body rotate back around it unloads that torque which results in club head speed in how to golf.
How to golf when you rotate backwards you are then using your shoulders to turn and torque the body. Most instructors would have you rotate further and then get your arms involved by taking the club further back to over your head and parallel to the ground over your shoulders.
But lucky for me I am not an instructor and I can do whatever I want. Most people would try to do that and it is all arms from that point. Some don’t even rotate their shoulders, they just use their arms to swing the club. This will max out your swing speed to less than 80 miles per hour. And because their body is still, the club will fly out and put spin on the ball as it cuts across the ball which will make it go way right. A slice! We don’t want you to learn how to golf by hitting a slice do we?
So, lets show you how to golf properly. When you rotate your upper torso to the right, your arms are following. Both arms are still straight and act as pendulums. We want to do a little more to get you some distance. You have rotated your shoulders and now we want you to move your arms a little more by trying to rotate a little more and carry the arms up to so that the club is pointing at the sky. Your left arm is straight but your right arm is bent slightly and you are ready to unleash the monster within you.
You can’t just rotate your shoulders back around as your lower torso will keep you from supplying any power. So, we have to get the waist, hips and legs out of the way. We do that by starting with the hips. We rotate the hips and the upper torso follows. Depending on how fast you move your hips and torso will dictate how fast you can generate club head speed.
They say that the torso can only move 1 to 3 mph. But that 3 mph will help you generate 100+ mph club head speed. And at that speed you will hit the ball approximately 250 yards.
Now, while your moving right to left with the lower body and then the torso, your arms are being dragged by the torso, hence “I can hit a ball 300 yards without my arms”, and your wrists are still cocked slightly. As you move through the ball the arms will straighten out and you will go down the path. You will continue the swing from the momentum and then the club will try to wrap around your head.
This is why we want very little pressure on the grip especially with the right hand as it is just along for the ride. If you grip it tightly you will want to pull the club around earlier causing you to put the ball left. Your back swing and forward swing are on the flight path of the ball for most of the swing. That is why we want the back swing to be a little over parallel so that we don’t leave the flight path. Does this make sense? This is how to golf for 90% of you. You can get more details about how to swing by getting the Simple Golf Swing form the golf swing guru David Nevogt. I am a believer and so are over 2 million others who have purchased his Simple Golf Swing.
I have tried six other instructors and they all make it too complex. I play a little more than the average golfer and am better than 90% of the people I golf with, which is over 100 in three leagues, but I have changed my golf swing to the simple golf swing for me and my wife to simplify things. But, I have also incorporated some golf swing techniques from the other instructors to get the perfect simple golf swing. If you decide to get the simple golf swing I will include these things I have added to the simple golf swing to make it the perfect simple golf swing.
You can too if you want to learn how to golf easily. It is easy to do and if by some weird deal you don’t like it than ask for your money back and get a prompt refund. It doesn’t get any better than that. You can learn more by signing up for his free chapter on the set up. Just click on the picture in the upper right corner that says “The Simple Golf Swing” if you want to learn right now how to golf.

Let’s discover together how to golf the basics. To start with how to golf the basics when others are golfing is one of the hardest things most new comers have. They will stand on/or near the tee box and practice their golf swing while their playing partners are trying to address or go with their golf swing.
Do you know how disruptive that is to hear another club whoosing through the air with what seems to be inches from your head? The natural instinct is to duck but they also realize there is a newbie on the tee so they don’t duck unless someone tells them to duck. They are prepared to duck so they are concentrating on the word duck not the process of swinging and hitting that little white pebble in front of them.
So they will not hit a very good shot and you will look up and say, I remember him saying that he played better than that. Well, you write it off to that golfer is a liar and then wait for the next moment for you to tee off and you think well I got time to practice some more so I will continue to practice my golf swing.
While I think about it, I have told you about the benefits of going through this blog for more info. Here is a great example, I have this article plus 9 videos that show you how to golf with various aspects of the game on this page alone. No where else could that be true. So finish reading this article and then view the videos.
Here are a couple more things that you will do while learning how to golf. You stand close to the golf right to his right at the back of the tee box about six feet away. What you don’t realize is that you are in the golfers periferal vision. That golfers thinks you are too close and may hit you so it disrupts his/her concentration. Or you may move around and that golfer can see you and he cannot think of anything else but you.
Or maybe you are nervous and begin talking to your friend that is standing next to you. That is disruptive to all sports participants in every sport. You have to stand still, do not practice your swing while others are getting ready to hit the ball or move around or stand to close or talk while a player is trying to prepare themselves to hit the golf ball.
While a golfer is on the tee and has his/her ball teed up then it is their time not yours. You are to leave them alone is shut up and not move around and stand still about 10 to 15 feet away. That is the most basic rule you can follow when you are golfing whether on the tee box or out on the course or on the green. Oh and one other rule in how to golf is there is no horse play on the golf course as it disrupts the entire golf course watching you goofing off.
The start is the how to golf grip. For the right handed golf. Just reverse for the lefty. You can use a glove or not it is up to you. For newbies it may be better as you will have a tendency to hold the club too tight. But you grip is this, open the palm of your left hand. Take the club and place the golf club grip on the diagonal across your palm from the first crease on you left index finger to the first crease on your palm kind of on a diagonal.
Close your fingers on the grip and place your thumb at the one o’clock position. Your grip pressure should be a 2.5 on a scale of one to 10 with one being the neck of a beer bottle or a plastic glass and 10 being the neck of your mother-in-law.
Now comes the right hand. There is talk about the three grips. One is the baseball grip where all ten fingers are on the golf club grip. The other is the over lap where the baby finger on your right hand is nestled between the index and second finger on your left hand. The third is the interlock. This is where you slide your baby finger on the right hand under the index finger and in between the index and second finger on your left hand. I don’t use the interlock as it hurts. I use the overlap little finger as it just feels more comfortable in the realm of how to golf using the proper grip and I don’t use a golf glove unless it is raining, then I need the grip.
This is how to golf with your thumb. It should go on the golf club grip at the eleven o’clock position. By doing that you now have a neutral grip. The thumbs are at 11 and one. Your grip with the left hand is about 2.5 and the grip with your right hand is 1 or less. The right hand is only for guidance. You will use your right hand to guide the club while going forward on the forward swing when using the how to golf method.
Now this is a little how to golf secret that no one tells you. So when people ask tell them you heard it here first. Even the people at about.com will not have this secret. If the golf club grip has been installed properly there will be a mark at the bottom of the grip that will show you where to place your thumb so that the club face is square to the ball.
Now remember you have your thumbs at 1 and 11 o’clock so just momentarily, place one thumb at 12 o’clock and line up the grip with that mark. There may be only one mark or a series of marks but you are to use the one that puts the club face square to the ball. Then when it is aligned, place your thumb back where it belongs. I usually use my left thumb to do this as my right hand is too loose.
This is using your hands on the golf grip to learn how to golf. This is just the beginning but I need to end it as it is taking too long. I will continue this article on the next post. So look for how to golf part 2.
By the way, if you are new to this blog, I have over 1,100 posts on golf ball, golf equipment and golf tips. Most are videos but some are articles. But most are quite good and you will spend months here looking at all of the info. So book mark this blog and come back often. I made this blog for informational purposes about how to golf.
